To contribute to the cultural development of the

sectors of scarce resources of the area of influence of

VISION

To turn the Library into a Cultural Center and one of

the principal pedagogic institutions of the city of

Cali that supports all the inhabitants of the sector.

Critique

Since I was living in Andalusia, my people, I had the

intention of creating a library, since from small I

liked the reading. I did all the possible steps, but I

did not possess the support of the people. Time later

emigrate towards Cali in 1960 when I moved back from

the Factory Cicolac. The thorn continued puncturing the

One day in a meeting I said to him to the community

it would be in the quarter. On the same night, May 6,

1989 I confirmed my intention with the donation of

three books: Stories and Novels, Neutral Spain and the

decided that the Library would be called A "POPULAR

LIBRARY ISAIAS GAMBOA".

I him started writing to the executives of the

Association, to the officials of shift of the

Secretaries of education of the Municipality and the

Department, to the embassies, to the consulates and to

the companies where it knew that they had libraries.

From many I received favorable responses.

On September 30 of the same year, with the opening of

four paved stables and taking advantage of the arrival

of the mayor of shift the library was inaugurated with

546 books. At the time that the Library was opened,

also the efforts... With my wife we did pies, fritanga

to gather funds. Never manage to do an aguapanela, now

I was getting up at 4 a.m. to doing stews. We were

Library on the House of Communal Action. In 27 years

bricks. In July, month of vacation, 14 girls graduates

realized activities lúdicas and artistic with 210

children from 3 to 12 years. For recommendation of Dr.

Alvaro Restrepo, Secretary of Community Development,

the denomination of popular library changed to

community. Thanks to a game presupposed of $782

thousand weight. There was started feeling the hand

friend who was coming to the community Libraries. The

day came of taking the blocks and the wood from him to

the construction. It is difficult to transcribe here

the happiness, this feeling of spiritual pleasure on

having seen a made a reality sleep. A work done for a

childhood that needs to glimpse a limpid horizon and to

enjoy a happy future. The world for the quarter changed

with the arrival of the Library, from this magic place

campaigns were realized as ? for love to the quarter ?,

who was understanding 4 weeks: one of recracaion, the

ecological one, one of sports, and one of culture.

There were programs as the adequacy of the community

urban libraries, doing mingas with the librarians

counting, arranging books, arranging the

bibliographical existence A great day the library was

affiliated to the NATIONAL NETWORK OF LIBRARIES, for

that one then, in 1993 mister Ignacio Cerón started

speaking about the Network of Public Community

Libraries in the city. Meanwhile the library Isaias

Gamboa was persisting in his mission of service to the

community, the Secretary of Culture was delivering to

him in commodate a computer and books in order that we

were entering the world of multimedia. Actually

when the library was founded it was already in mind

to turn her into a Cultural Center, which was not only

to consult a task and go out again, but

it was serving him to give free rein to all

manifestations of the art, for intellectual happiness,

moral and spiritual of the human being.

MISIÓN

Contribuir al desarrollo cultural de los sectores de

escasos recursos del área de influencia de la

Biblioteca Isaías Gamboa, que son los barrios Berlín

donde está ubicada, y los barrios vecinos de la Isla,

Fátima, Bolivariano, Bueno Madrid y Popular, además de

todos los habitantes de la ciudad que quieran llegar a

sus servicios, pues se atiende a todas las personas sin

ningún tipo de discriminación. La misión trasciende la

consulta de libros y pretende elevar el espíritu

cultural así como proteger el medio ambiente a través

de campañas ecológicas y educación ambiental y fomentar

las bellas artes en todas sus manifestaciones : danzas,

teatro, artes plástica y música. VISION

Convertir la Biblioteca en un Centro Cultural y una de

las principales instituciones pedagógicas de la ciudad

de Cali que apoye a todos los habitantes del sector.

Reseña

Desde que yo vivía en Andalucia, mi pueblo, tuve la

intención de crear una biblioteca, ya que desde pequeño

me gustó la lectura. Hice todos los tramites posibles,

pero no conté con el apoyo de la gente. Tiempo después

emigre hacia Cali en 1960 cuando me retiré de la

Fábrica Cicolac. La espina seguía punzando el espíritu

referente a este sueño, entonces llegó el momento. Un

día en una reunión le dije a la comunidad que el sueño

que no había sido posible en mi pueblo, lo sería en el

barrio. Esa misma noche, el 6 de Mayo de 1989 confirmé

mi intención con la donación de tres libros: Cuentos y

Novelas, España Neutral y la Herencia de los Towers,

ese misma noche decidí que la Biblioteca se llamaría

"BIBLIOTECA POPULAR ISAIAS GAMBOA ". Empecé a

escribirle a los directivos de la Asociación, a los

funcionarios de turno de las Secretarias de educación

del Municipio y el Departamento, a las embajadas, a los

consulados y a las empresas donde sabía que tenían

bibliotecas. De muchos recibí respuestas favorables. El

30 de Septiembre del mismo año, con la inauguración de

cuatro cuadras pavimentadas y aprovechando la llegada

del alcalde de turno se inauguró la biblioteca con 546

libros. Al tiempo que se abría la Biblioteca, también

los esfuerzos... Con mi esposa hicimos empanadas,

fritanga para recoger fondos. Nunca llegue a hacer una

aguapanela, ahora me levantaba a las 4 de la madrugada

a hacer guisos. Trabajábamos inalcanzablemente en la

consecución de fondos ecónomicos y bibliográficos.

Posteriormente construimos la Biblioteca encima de la

Casa de Acción Comunal. En los 27 años que demoré

construyendo mi casa, nunca llegue a pegar un ladrillo,

con la construcción de la Biblioteca tuve que cortar

hasta hierro. En una ocasión al agacharme a remojar

unos ladrillos me quede tieso, sin poder moverme, sin

embargo, los brazos me permitieron seguir revolviendo

mezcla para pegar ladrillos. En Julio, mes de

vacaciones, 14 niñas bachilleres realizaron actividades

lúdicas y artísticas con 210 niños de 3 a 12 años. Por

recomendación del Dr. Alvaro Restrepo, Secretario de

Desarrollo Comunitario, se cambió la denominación de

biblioteca popular a comunitaria. Gracias a una partida

presupuesto de $ 782 mil pesos. Se empezó a sentir la

mano amiga que llegaba a las Bibliotecas comunitarias.

Llegó el día de quitarle los tacos y la madera a la

construcción. Es difícil transcribir aquí la alegría,

ese sentimiento de placer espiritual al ver un sueño

hecho realidad. Una obra hecha para una niñez que

requiere vislumbrar un horizonte límpido y disfrutar un

porvenir venturoso. El mundo para el barrio cambio con

la llegada de la Biblioteca, desde este mágico lugar se

realizaron campañas como “por amor al barrio”, la cual

comprendía 4 semanas: una de recracaion, una ecologica,

una de deportes, y una de cultura . Hubo programas como

la adecuación de las bibliotecas comunitarias urbanas,

haciendo mingas con los bibliotecarios contando,

arreglando libros, ordenando la existencia

bibliográfica Un gran día la biblioteca fue afiliada a

la RED NACIONAL DE BIBLIOTECAS, por ese entonces, en

1993 el señor Ignacio Cerón empezó a hablar de la Red

de Bibliotecas Públicas Comunitarias en la ciudad.

Mientras la biblioteca Isaias Gamboa persistía en su

misión de servicio a la comunidad, la Secretaría de

Cultura le entregaba en comodato un computador y libros

para que entráramos al mundo de los multimedia. En

realidad cuando se fundó la biblioteca ya estaba en

mente convertirla en un Centro Cultural, que fuera no

sólo para consultar una tarea y volver a salir, sino

que sirviera para darle rienda suelta a todas las

manifestaciones del arte, para alegría intelectual,

moral y espiritual del ser humano.
