  I remember Catherine Rodgers McLain
 Memories

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the days when there were very few of the small publishing firms
as there are today, her novel was bought by Doubleday & Co., which
was one of the biggest (if not the biggest) publishing houses in the
country.
That made the chances of selling a novel to them was about like winning the
million dollar lottery.

I do have some of her house that I took a couple of years ago. I'll have to
find them and will e-mail them.
I guess you know about me from web pages.
We just lost 2 more this week, I don't know if you knew Hershall Meadows or
not, or Richard Gregory or Paul Strozier...but all three died in the past
few days.
I send you the photos of the Rodgers as soon as I can.

From Roy Isbell:  I know for a fact that she was always writing while she worked at Tallapoosa Academy.  Once in 1975 or 1976, while visiting her home office,  I
found a page in her typewriter and managed to read a few lines before she screamed and grabbed it.  I remember this line:  "I'll never forget the
Canadian Indian."
  I'll never forget Mrs. McLain.

I'm sending the address for Earl Langley who was a friend of C. Rodgers, you
might want to contact him too.
Here are 3 photos of her house I took in 99. I may have more but will take
time to find them. She ran the Camp Hill phone switchboard from her home in
the 40's and early 50's.
From my link page is a link to the Camp Hill Club page.

In 1960 by some estimates there was a copy of THE TOWERS INHERITANCE to be found in more households in Chambers and Tallapoosa counties than any other single book except the Bible.
